Game notes: The Cardinal scored their biggest win in years last week – upsetting defending SCISA Class 3A champion Augusta Christian, 22-14. It was Cardinal Newman’s first win in 11 tries against the Lions from Georgia. Seniors Zakki Parker and Evan DuBois led the offensive show. Parker ran for 106 yards and one touchdown on 26 carries and also had what proved to be a decisive 98-yards kickoff return touchdown.
DuBois netted 119 yards and one TD on just seven carries.
Garrett McNerney and DuBois led the defensive effort with eight tackles apiece … Pinewood Prep has lost 12 in a row and 18 of its last 19 outings.
Series history: The Cardinals breezed 42-7 against the Panthers last year and are looking for another favorable verdict that would even the series at 3-3.
